Australian Enterprise Awards 2026

Australian Enterprise Awards 2026 | 60 Located in the township of Nuriootpa, South Australia, Barossa Palms is a sanctuary of peace situated in the very heart of the Barossa Valley. The boutique retreat welcomes a diverse range of guests seeking a more meaningful and restorative stay, from wine lovers and weekend escapees to corporate travellers and wellness-focused visitors. We spoke with Owner Elizabeth Hoyt to find out more, as we applaud Barossa Palms for its success in our Australian Enterprise Awards 2026. With 17 years of government roles behind her, Elizabeth Hoyt understands the detrimental impact that burnout and stress can have on both physical and mental health. Elizabeth’s experiences have shaped a vision for a place where rejuvenation, restoration, and incredible human connection are prioritised, ultimately steering her to start up Barossa Palms Motel in October 2024. Driven by her determination, Elizabeth made the transition from personal burnout to building a purposeful space centred on wellbeing and tranquillity. “On purchase, the building was bright purple, and most bathrooms were original to the 1960s,” she recalled. “I recognised that the old girl needed a lot of love, like we all do. And she is polishing up really well!” Every corner of Barossa Palms has been intentionally created to encourage relaxation, balance, and connection, from its fitness centre, massage room, and wellness lounge to its communal kitchen, prohibition-themed speakeasy cellar, and guest lobby with a free coffee bar and pool table. This space is designed to serve as more than just a place to sleep, ensuring every guest feels better when they leave than when they first walked through its doors. This thoughtful attention to detail was further demonstrated with the recent addition of a miniature goat sanctuary, home to two miniature goats called Ginger and Bill, as well as one Pygmy goat named Storm. “They are our emotional support staff,” Elizabeth shared. “If guests have a bad day, I encourage them to go spend time with our goats. They are so loved by our guests.” In a competitive market, Barossa Palms stands out for its blend of boutique motel accommodation and holistic wellness experience, delivered without the cost or formality often associated with luxury retreats. The motel holds a reputation for being handson, authentic, and deeply guest-focused across its services, remaining committed to honouring guest feedback, and continuously evolving without ever losing sight of the human experience that lies at the heart of its hospitality. “Whether someone stays one night or a week, we want them to leave feeling calmer, clearer, and more energised. Every space has been thoughtfully curated, and every interaction is guided by kindness, transparency, and care.” Barossa Palms ensures this approach by hiring employees who are warm and intuitive, maintaining that skills can be taught, but attitude and empathy are qualities that must come from within to play an instrumental role in sustaining its success. By fostering open communication, flexibility, and a supportive work environment, as well as providing free use of the motel’s amenities and organising regular bonding opportunities, Elizabeth ensures that the team feel valued and calm, with a natural synergy and cohesion that flows through to all guests. Another crucial aspect of maintaining an unrivalled guest experience is paying close attention to the hospitality landscape. The accommodation industry is currently undergoing a strong shift towards wellness travel and community-driven spaces. Barossa Palms also embraces trends while setting the pace itself, especially as it is transforming the concept of a traditional motel. Its fitness centre, day spa, wellness lounge, speakeasy-themed cellar, miniature goat sanctuary, and even an eagerly anticipated luxury pool are launching in 2026, and potential guests are invited to watch this space! “Challenges such as rising costs and staffing pressures have encouraged us to be more creative, intentional, and values-driven,” Elizabeth added. “We turn obstacles into opportunities by refining our offering, diversifying experiences within the property, and creating spaces that serve multiple purposes, all while maintaining warmth and approachability.” For the years ahead, Barossa Palms will deepen its wellness experience while remaining true to its roots. This wonderful destination, motel, and spa is set to continue evolving its wellness offerings, and strengthen its partnerships with local businesses and practitioners. Ultimately, Barossa Palms is positioning itself as a wellness-led regional destination, whilst maintaining luxurious warmth, accessibility, and authenticity that has earned its title of South Australia’s Best Boutique Motel and Spa 2026.
