Singapore Business Awards 2026

Singapore Business Awards 2026 | 14 Teck Huat & Company is a well-established business operating within the food and beverage industry. It has dedicated itself to providing affordable, premium quality products to consumers for almost a century. Under three generations of the Teo family’s leadership, the company has evolved to maintain an exceptional portfolio of brands that cater to diverse markets across greater Asia. We took a closer look at Teck Huat & Company below, following its recent recognition in the Singapore Business Awards 2026. Founded in 1927 by Mr. Teo Chin Hut, Teck Huat & Company first began as a small-scale provision shop selling general goods and trading supplies from its base along Rochor Road, Singapore. The company quickly established itself as an essential pillar to the local community, gaining the trust of local merchants and securing important business contracts in Malaya. Teck Huat & Company’s business portfolio grew further in late 1928 with the establishment of Wan Tong Soap Factory in Yio Chu Kang, Singapore. This factory manufactured two major brands, Fan and Gunner, which were highly popular amongst consumers in Malaya, North Eastern India, Sarawak, and Hong Kong. Like countless companies across the country, Teck Huat & Company was significantly impacted by the Japanese occupation of Singapore. Mr. Teo’s shophouse was destroyed in 1941, and he also lost ownership of Wan Tong Soap Factory. During the height of the unrest, Mr. Teo made the altruistic decision to hide business colleague Mr. McDermott and his wife in the safety of his attic. This decision formed incredible trust between the pair and, years later, Mr. McDermott arranged for Mr. Teo the full acquisition of Lifeguard, an Australian dairy brand for which he was liaison officer. After the Japanese surrendered in 1945, communities across Singapore experienced a critical shortage of necessities. As the region slowly recovered from the aftermath of the war, commodities became scarce and demands only grew. Mr. Teo responded with speed, swiftly reorganising Teck Huat & Company to supply post-war communities with products once again, importing coffee and canned goods from America, Australia, Brazil, Europe, and South Africa. In the years that followed, Teck Huat & Company has worked tirelessly to strengthen its industry standing and strategically expand its portfolio. Today, the company’s expertise spans wine and spirits distribution, jewellery manufacturing and retail, yacht chartering and management, private aviation, portfolio and assets holding, boutique hotels, construction materials, and mining machinery. The company manages the full supply chain, from import licensing and bonded warehousing to temperaturecontrolled logistics and on-time delivery. In 2016, Teck Huat & Company further reinforced its position within the food and beverage industry by establishing the Marco’s Cellar subsidiary. Incorporated with the sole purpose of maintaining the company’s ever-growing portfolio of wines and spirits, this trademark holds a wide range of sole distributorships for fine cognacs and wines in both Singapore and Myanmar, representing exclusive global names such as Penfolds Wines, Palmer & Co. Champagne, Kavalan Single Malt Whiskey, Kendell-Jackson Wines, and many more. Through Marco’s Cellar, the team has formed partnerships with a number of leading international brands to serve hotels, restaurants, retailers, and eCommerce channels throughout Singapore. Its steadily expanding client base currently comprises more than 1,200 different entities with a total of 2,000 stores in distribution, ranging from hotels to established restaurants. Alongside this, the Marco’s Cellar team maintains an active online presence that enables endusers to sample and purchase its carefully curated collection of wines and spirits. Today, Teck Huat & Company is leading the charge in FMCG and alcohol distribution across Singapore, Malaysia, and Myanmar, with a growing footprint in Greater China. In 2025, the company recorded its fifth consecutive year of double-digit revenue growth, driven by its strong performance in wines and spirits distribution, alongside new FMCG partnerships. Such exceptional performance, driven by an unrivalled understanding of the market paired with almost a century of client-centric operations, has earned Teck Huat & Company its status as the Best Wine and Spirits Distributor 2026.
