APAC Insider- South East Asia Business Awards 2025 | 16 ADM unlocks the power of nature to enrich quality of life. As a global agricultural supply chain manager and processor, the company connects local needs with global capabilities to help ensure access to safe, nutritious food. ADM offers a broad portfolio of human and animal nutrition solutions, leads in health and well-being, and drives innovation in bio-based products. And through business-driven sustainability, it advances a strong agricultural sector, resilient supply chains, and a growing bioeconomy. ADM is committed to supporting and uplifting communities across Southeast Asia and beyond – through initiatives that promote meaningful, social, economic, and environmental progress. Supported by ADM Cares, ADM’s corporate social investment programme, the company works closely with a range of nongovernmental organisations, community-based groups, and educational institutions to deliver impact through grant-making in three core areas that align with ADM’s overarching purpose: advancing sustainable agriculture, supporting food security, and promoting health and well-being. What sets ADM Cares apart is its partnership-driven approach to social impact. Rather than focusing solely on financial contributions, the programme codevelops long-term, sustainable solutions with its partners – tailoring efforts to meet the unique needs of each community and driving measurable progress on the ground. Many of ADM Cares’ initiatives focus on capacity building, with an emphasis on empowering communities to take ownership of their growth. The programme does more than just support projects; it helps to build systems that last. ADM Cares takes pride in fostering lasting change by enabling social, economic, and environmental progress that benefits current and future generations across Southeast Asia and beyond. Over the years, ADM Cares has undertaken numerous initiatives to uplift and support communities across Southeast Asia. For example, ADM Cares’ partnership with Project PEARLS in the Philippines, which began in 2021, reinforces ADM’s commitment to food security and community well-being. During the COVID-19 pandemic, ADM Cares prioritised hunger relief efforts to support vulnerable communities near the company’s Animal Nutrition plants in Bulacan and Manila. This collaboration contributed to Project PEARLS’ overall impact, with 159,700 meals served in 2023. From 2023 to 2024, ADM also partnered with the Tzu Chi Foundation and Golden Agri-Resources (GAR) in Riau, Indonesia, to enhance childcare, support sustainable farming, and grow local businesses. As part of this collaboration, ADM Cares provided funding to support GAR’s network of over 350 early childhood care facilities, which care for 8,500 children of plantation workers. Key initiatives included a comprehensive assessment and gap analysis of the childcare centres, providing upgraded educational resources, and delivering training to 1,630 individuals to improve caregiving skills. Additionally, ADM Cares has also supported Community Learning Centres (CLC) in Riau, which offer training in sustainable agriculture, waste management, and business skills. These efforts have benefited more than 450 community members and supported over a dozen microenterprises to build capacity and scale up their businesses. ADM Cares is also making significant efforts in Vietnam, empowering the next generation of leaders through ADM Awards scholarships in partnership with local universities. These scholarships are put in place to support talented students from underprivileged backgrounds, while fostering innovation through entrepreneurial competitions focused on agriculture. Throughout the programme, ADM employees serve as ambassadors to the students, offering guidance and providing them with realworld exposure. At Nong Lam University alone, more than 300 students across multiple facilities have benefitted from the scholarship. ADM Awards scholarships have also been extended to nearly 100 students across Foreign Trade University, Can Tho University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. Beyond providing financial aid, the initiative offered engagement activities such as a factory tour, providing students with firsthand industry experience. Strong internal collaboration and leadership support were key to the success of the ADM Awards programme in Vietnam, helping to strengthen university partnerships and expand ADM’s role in the country’s talent development. Moving forward, ADM will continue to broaden its positive impact in the communities it serves by strengthening existing partnerships and supporting new community-led initiatives. One key milestone for the team this year is the expansion of its community empowerment project to Lubuk Gaung in Riau, Indonesia. In collaboration with GAR and Tzu Chi Foundation, the project will focus on the development of hydroponic facilities to grow fresh, nutritious produce for local consumption. Aiming to reach at least 100 households over the course of the two-year initiative, this effort will not only support food security but also open up pathways to greater economic independence for local households. The second stream of the project will address stunting through collaboration with local health centres, integrated health posts, village-level community empowerment groups, and the Family Welfare Empowerment Movement in Lubuk Gaung. The third component will strengthen early childhood education facilities, building on ADM’s existing work with GAR and Tzu Chi Foundation. Through ADM Cares, ADM continues to turn its commitment into meaningful action – building stronger communities and creating long-term, sustainable benefits for generations to come.
