South East Asia Business Awards 2025

Best Oilfield Equipment Manufacturer 2025 In the face of shifting global energy demands and the race for resource efficiency, Southeast Asia’s manufacturing powerhouses are sharpening their edge. Precision, adaptability, and innovation are not optional – they are tools for sustained success. Stepping into the spotlight is Schoeller-Bleckmann Vietnam Co. Ltd. (SBVN), a high precision manufacturer for large complex products processing high-alloy nonmagnetic high corrosion resistance steels. We found out more about the company’s endeavours from General Director – Mr. Paul William Mclaughlan, as SBVN is named in the South East Asia Business Awards 2025. SchoellerBleckmann Vietnam was founded in 2008, born to offer an Asia Pacific-based manufacturing solution to global oilfield customers. The company moved into its custom-built premises in September 2009, based in the Province of Binh Duong, Vietnam, north of Ho Chi Minh City. During late 2013, SBVN undertook its first major expansion, increasing its production area to nearly 100,000ft2. A further expansion, completed in June 2025, brought the total production space to more than 120,000ft2. This journey has been significant for SBVN, allowing the company to offer globally competitive pricing strategically located in the Asia Pacific region, while providing the assurances and experience expected of the global SBO AG. Today, the company stands as a leading high precision manufacturer for large complex products made from high-alloy, nonmagnetic, corrosion resistant steels. These include components for measurement while drilling, logging while drilling, and rotary steerable tools, made possible by the availability of special nonmagnetic steel provided by the SBO Group. SBO has been leading in highprecision manufacturing for decades, globally renowned for producing and processing high-strength, nonmagnetic steel grades for the oilfield and various industries. Southeast Asia is a booming region for manufacturing, with many foreign companies now migrating to the country as foreign direct investment increases with each quarter. Many entities now see Vietnam as the ideal cost-effective location for manufacturing, while becoming less dependent on various other global suppliers. Reflecting on these developments, Paul told us: “The challenges from this are developing and hiring highly technical skilled people for our industry, but there is a huge opportunity for the future. Vietnam will be the next global leader, for sure.” Well-equipped to lead the charge in industry advancement, SBVN shares the fundamental principles of all within the SBO Group, comprising partnership; integrity; innovation and continuous improvement; diversity, trust, and empowerment; entrepreneurial accountability; sustainability; and value creation. These values guide SBVN’s daily cooperation with each other, and its interactions with business partners, customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders. They make it clear to each member of the team what SBVN stands for and are anchored to the company’s policies. The manufacturing market is saturated, chock-full with emerging entities striving to succeed. SBVN shines in this market for its unrivalled offering – a one-stop solution manufactures to the client’s requirement. With its Austriabased intercompany SBPT serving as its raw material supplier, SBVN is continually in possession of stock material. Unlike other competitors, who must order their raw materials and wait up to six months for delivery, SBVN can remain on the ground – ready to react to the various needs and demands of its valued clientele, a position Jun25188 that stands as a great source of pride for the team. “We are all proud of each other and what we can deliver; we are all focused on the journey to get better, learn from our mistakes, and become stronger every year,” Paul told us. “The last six years have been an unbelievable journey for SBVN, the biggest challenge and constraints being the impact of COVID-19 and the industry downturn in 2020. This tested our incredible staff – remaining fully operational, with over 60% of our valued employees living on-site for over 100 days is nothing short of remarkable and shows the true testament, resilience, and commitment of our employees. Nothing was going to stop our valued employees from serving our valued customers.” Paul cites SBVN’s corporate culture as the very heartbeat of the organisation, reflecting its values, beliefs, and collective behaviours. At the core of this culture is a commitment to inclusivity, respect, and collaboration. Within this culture, transparency and open communication are fundamental, empowering each employee to share ideas, express concerns, and contribute towards shared goals. Continuous learning and development are encouraged, with opportunities for growth and advancement at every level. The company fosters an environment wherein every voice is heard, and diversity is celebrated, driven by the recognition that unique perspectives are the catalyst for innovation and success. Alongside this, SBVN understands that happy and fulfilled employees are equally essential to the company’s success. Through various programmes, flexible work arrangements, and support systems, SBVN has created an environment that enables employees to thrive – both personally and professionally. What’s more, SBVN is also sure to promote strong team dynamics and giving back to the community, utilising various team-building activities to strengthen bonds across employees, promoting collaboration, trust, and communication. From fun outings to teambuilding exercises to engaging workshops, SBVN creates ample opportunities for its team to connect on personal and professional levels. “Above all, our corporate culture is characterised by a sense of camaraderie and teamwork,” said Paul. “We believe in supporting each other, lifting one another up, and celebrating our collective achievements. Whether it’s through teambuilding activities, social events, or simply lending a hand, we cultivate strong relationships and a sense of belonging among our employees. Our culture is not just what we do; it’s who we are, guiding our actions and shaping our identity as a company.” “Our culture is not just what we do; it’s who we are, guiding our actions and shaping our identity as a company.” With such a cohesive internal culture, the team at SBVN is more than prepared to meet any
