Pitney Bowes Inc. ), a global technology company that provides innovative products and solutions to power commerce, today announced that it is expanding its business in Australia to provide global ecommerce solutions to retailers looking to sell their goods across international borders. With the Pitney Bowes Borderfree Retail solution, Australian retailers will reach consumers in 220 countries and territories.

For nearly 40 years, clients in Australia have turned to Pitney Bowes for solutions that provide simplicity and remove complexities across the physical and digital worlds of commerce. Pitney Bowes solutions help clients identify customers, locate opportunities, enable communications, power shipping from anywhere to everywhere, and manage payments.

“Australian retailers on the Borderfree Retail platform will be enabled to offer consumers in other countries a seamless, hyper-local experience,” said Lila Snyder, Executive Vice President and President, Pitney Bowes Global Ecommerce. “Australian brands have always been popular with consumers around the world. Now, retailers can expand internationally to take advantage of growth opportunities in global markets, and provide an outstanding customer experience.”

Australian retailers see significant opportunities to sell to consumers in other markets, but there are challenging complexities to overcome. For international transactions, retailers must offer easy payment and shipping options, provide fully landed costs, and manage each order through customs. Pitney Bowes Global Ecommerce solutions help clients address these complexities, so Australian retail brands can implement their international expansion plans with a localized approach for cross-border shoppers. Pitney Bowes currently offers its global end-to-end cross-border platform to 285 retailers, and will soon be launching an international presence for Sydney-based General Pants Co.

Paula Mitchell, General Manager, Ecommerce General Pants Co, said, “We are very excited to be able to showcase what makes us so well known in this market to the globe. Our exclusive product and brand mix that you can’t get anywhere else in the country will now be one click away from a whole new audience. With Pitney Bowes technologies, consumers can now easily cross-border shop the latest trends in Australian and international fashion with confidence.”

Global cross-border online B2C sales are expected to reach $424 billion by 2021, according to Forrester data1. Consumers are exploring more online global retailers as cross-border shopping becomes easier, faster and more convenient. Cross-border shoppers in the Asia Pacific region are expected to grow in double digits over the next five years. With the Australian market positioned relatively near the emerging Asian market, Australian retailers could benefit with a cross-border ecommerce approach.

Cross-border shopping – and the Borderfree Retail experience – is not new to Australian consumers. Australians are the most likely of all global consumers (at 63%) to purchase products online from retailers outside their own country2. And, for the 285 US and UK retailers on the Borderfree solution, Australia ranks as a top market for product sales. Now, Australian retailers will be able to provide that same experience to consumers around the world.

The Pitney Bowes Borderfree Retail Solution is an integral part of the Pitney Bowes Commerce Cloud, a commerce enabler, providing access to solutions, analytics and APIs across the full commerce continuum.
